This documentary follows the first 50 years of advocacy by the Arc of Minnesota, one of the nation’s first parent advocacy groups supporting children and adults with developmental disabilities. From 1952 through 2002, people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities and their families organized and fought to overcome isolation, apathy, and despair to create community-based services and supports. The Arc of Minnesota has led the way in bringing about changes in the way Minnesotans view and treat persons with developmental disabilities and their families. Today, they have access to services and opportunities that were unimaginable fifty years ago, due to The Arc of Minnesota's efforts.

The video includes four chapters:

1. The Arc Minnesota. Advocacy and support for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities and their families.
2. Arc Southeastern Minnesota. Building inclusive communities in southeastern Minnesota.
3. Arc Greater Twin Cities. Changing Attitudes. Changing Policies. Changing Lives.
4. The Arc of Minnesota Southwest. Providing advocacy and support for people with developmental disabilities.
5. The Arc of the United States. The Arc is the world’s largest community based organization of and for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It provides an array of services and support for families and individuals and includes over 140,000 members affiliated through more than 850 state and local chapters across the nation.
