What Does It Mean To Be a "Frontline Supervisor?"

Frontline Supervisors (FLSs) supervise employees (direct support professionals) who provide direct support to people with disabilities and related needs. FLSs can work for an organization/agency or they may be individuals with a disability or family members who direct support services.

The FLS will have many roles and responsibilities that include:

  • Understanding how to provide positive, respectful, and effective direct support.
  • Understanding the policies and procedures of employers and funding agencies.
  • Effectively recruiting, supporting, leading, and developing direct support professionals (DSPs).
